- What does isotonic mean?
Isotonic means the salt concentration is similar to that of the human body. This perfect balance with the body makes isotonic hydraSense® gentle enough to clear, cleanse and hydrate even the most sensitive noses, like your baby’s, or noses recovering from endonasal surgery.
To create our range of isotonic solutions, we desalinate 100% natural-source seawater through electrodialysis until it reaches 0.9%, while carefully preserving the minerals and trace elements.
Our isotonic hydraSense® solutions include: Easydose®, Ultra-Gentle Mist, Gentle Stream, Medium Stream and Full Stream.
- What does hypertonic mean?
Hypertonic means the salt concentration is higher than the salt content in our bodies. This gives hypertonic hydraSense® the power to liquefy mucus to provide a natural-source nasal and sinus congestion relief with no rebound effects.
To create our range of hypertonic solutions, we desalinate 100% natural-source seawater at our laboratories until it has the equivalent of 2.2% naturally occurring minerals salts and trace elements for adults and 1.8% for children’s more sensitive noses.
Our hypertonic hydraSense® solutions include: Congestion Relief Kids and Congestion Relief (full-size and handy 25-mL size).
- For adults, which stream strength is best – Gentle Mist, Medium Stream or Full Stream?
It depends what comfort level you’re looking for. Gentle Mist is ideal for sensitive noses and first-time users. Once you’re comfortable with the spray sensation, you can move on to Medium Stream which is ideal for stuffy noses. Alternatively, you can move on to Full Stream which is thorough enough for more severe symptoms yet still gentle enough for those recovering from endonasal surgery.
- Does hydraSense® cause rebound congestion?
No. hydraSense® can be used as often as you need without causing rebound effects.
- What are the ingredients in hydraSense®?
hydraSense® contains isotonic link to Qu 1 in FAQ- or hypertonic link to Qu 2 in FAQ], undiluted, 100% natural-source seawater from the Bay of Saint-Malo, with over 70 trace elements and minerals naturally found in seawater. It does not contain any preservatives.
- What should I do if the spray nozzle becomes blocked?
If you haven’t used the spray for a while or if the weather is very dry, the mineral salts in the solution may crystallize on the inside of the spout and block the nozzle. Simply rinse the nozzle with hot water and dry thoroughly. This should be done after each use.
- Can I stop taking medication if I use hydraSense®?
hydraSense® has been proven to help reduce the use of medication like nasal decongestants. But you should not stop taking medication before consulting your healthcare professional.
- What are the age recommendations for hydraSense®?
hydraSense® Easydose® and Ultra-Gentle Mist (pink nozzle) are recommended for newborns, infants and older. hydraSense® Gentle Mist (green nozzle) and Medium Stream (navy blue nozzle) are recommended for 2 year olds and older. hydraSense® Full Stream (red nozzle) is recommended only for 12 year olds and older. Finally, hydraSense® Congestion Relief (blue nozzle or pocket-size format) is recommended for adults, and Congestion Relief Kids (blue nozzle) for 6 year olds and older with sensitive noses.
- Can hydraSense® be used several times a day?
Isotonic hydraSense® should be used at least twice a day (morning and evening) and 4 to 6 times a day when cold or allergy symptoms are present. Hypertonic hydraSense® Congestion Relief can be used up to 3 times daily or as often as needed. Hypertonic hydraSense® Congestion Relief Kids can be used up to 6 times daily.
- My baby has a cold. What should I do?
In most cases, you don't need to see your doctor when your baby has a cold. You could use hydraSense® Easydose® or Ultra-Gentle Mist first to liquefy mucus then clear your baby’s nose with the Nasal Aspirator. This combination will give you the best results, and can be used as often as needed. Be sure to take your time and follow the directions.
If your baby’s symptoms, such as ear ache or fluid draining from the ear, a temperature of above 39ºC, shortness of breath, a sore throat or a cough, last more than 10 days, consult a healthcare professional.
- My 7-year-old daughter has had a bad cold with thick yellow mucus for two weeks. Should I use Medium Stream or Congestion Relief Kids?
You should first consult a healthcare professional and discuss using hydraSense® Medium Stream or Congestion Relief Kids for the treatment of cold symptoms.
Medium Stream is great for effectively clearing noses of excessive mucus accumulation caused by colds. Congestion Relief Kids would be a good choice as well. It liquefies mucus to provide a natural-source nasal and sinus congestion relief with no rebound effects. It also washes away mucus-trapped infectious agents and allergens that could cause infection. Plus, its gentle stream is ideal for sensitive noses.
- What’s the difference between hydraSense® and other saline nasal washes on the market?
By diluting their salt concentration, other saline nasal washes on the market also dilute their valuable minerals and trace elements in the same proportions.
By contrast, hydraSense® starts with the mineral-rich seawater from the Bay of Saint-Malo and desalinates its salt content, a process which hardly affects its content of trace elements and minerals.
As a result, hydraSense® is a high-quality product with all the benefits of one of the most powerful tides in the world.
- What is the advantage of the seawater from Saint-Malo?
Seawater all over the world is of different quality, depending on the power of the tides. In the Bay of Saint-Malo, the tides are very powerful, which means that the currents constantly oxygenate the water and regenerate its mineral salt content.
When our laboratories use this mineral-rich seawater, we start with an exceptionally high-quality product and maintain its quality through desalination
- Who should use hydraSense® products?
Newborns, toddlers, children and adults with colds, allergies or upper respiratory infections can use hydraSense® products. They’re a simple, ready-to-use way of cleansing excessive mucus accumulation in congested nasal passages. Plus, they relieve dry noses due to dust or dry air.
Just had endonasal surgery? hydraSense® Full Stream is also recommended for your postoperative care. Cleansing excessive secretion and encrustation, hydraSense® Full Stream improves healing time, restores nasal function and reduces the risk of infection.
hydraSense® also comes in individual Easydose® vials. Ideal for babies, they’re also an easy-to-carry alternative to the isotonic link to Qu 1 in FAQ- hydraSense® nasal sprays for family members who prefer nasal drops or are on the go.
Going on a trip or at work? hydraSense® Congestion Relief is also available in a convenient 25-mL size that fits right into your pocket or handbag.
- What is hydraSense® used for?
hydraSense® cleanses excessive mucus accumulation in congested nasal passages caused by allergies, colds and upper respiratory infections. It also reduces excessive dryness due to dust or dry air, and relieves cold symptoms.
hydraSense® is clinically proven to reduce the duration of cold symptoms, the occurrence of complications such as sinusitis, medication use and the number of sick days.

- Will my baby cry when I treat him or her with hydraSense®?
hydraSense® Ultra-Gentle Mist is generally used for the first time during your baby's first cold. At first, your baby is likely to cry, especially when he or she isn't expecting the sensation of a liquid in his or her nose. Make sure the solution is at room temperature to increase comfort.
To avoid giving your baby an unpleasant surprise, you could spray a little hydraSense® into the air to amuse him or her. Eventually, he or she will get used to this new sensation and feel the positive results.
- Can the same bottle be used by all family members?
All hydraSense® products in the 135-mL format can be shared with family members depending on their age. Since the SteriFlo® dispensing system has a one-way valve, there is no risk of contamination. However, you should rinse the nozzle with hot water after each use and dry thoroughly.
- Once the product is open, does it remain sterile until its expiration date or after 28 days?
All hydraSense® products in the 135-mL format expire only at the date indicated on the bottom of the box. Their SteriFlo® dispensing system prevents any mucus from making its way inside the bottles, preventing contamination. hydraSense® Easydose®, however, is made for single usage only which means opened doses cannot be reused. Only hydraSense® Congestion Relief in the 25-mL format should be used within 28 days after the first spray.
- Does hydraSense® have any side effects or rebound effects?
hydraSense® is composed of 100% natural-source seawater with a salinity that resembles that of the human body and contains no preservatives. hydraSense® is not a medicated decongestant and there are no rebound effects. With hydraSense® Congestion Relief, you may experience a temporary tingling sensation if mucus membranes are highly irritated.
- When should I use hydraSense® Congestion Relief?
Nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies or sinusitis can make it difficult to eliminate mucus-trapped infectious agents and allergens, allowing infections to spread to the throat and ears. Using hydraSense® Congestion Relief reduces symptoms of nasal congestion and may reduce the use of medicated decongestants.
- Can hydraSense® be used in conjunction with other medical treatments? For example, can it be used along with a nasal steroid, an antihistamine, an anti-infective or an antibiotic?
You should consult your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions about using hydraSense® in your particular case.
